Fire/EMS Department

Neosho Fire Department

The Neosho Fire Department was organized and incorporated in October of 1887. Initially the company was equipped with a six-man squirrel-tailed hand pumper, hose cart and ladder wagon.

In 1966, the department moved from the old station, which was located in the basement of the old village hall, in what is now the Old Village Hall Museum, to their present location on Highway 67.

In 1976, the department accepted the additional duties as medical first responders for the fire district and a portion of the Town of Rubicon.

During 2000/2001, a 2,720 sq. ft. addition was added to the fire station creating additional fire truck bays, meeting room, kitchen, hose tower, new bathrooms and offices.

Through the years the equipment has evolved to our current:
Pumpers

  • 1987 E-One Pumper with a five man enclosed cab, diesel engine, automatic transmission, Hale 1,250 gpm single stage mid-ship pump with 750 gallons of on-board water in a poly tank and deluge gun.
  • 1986 Pierce Arrow Pumper with a five man enclosed cab, diesel engine, automatic transmission, Hale 1,250 gpm two stage mid-ship pump with 1000 gallons of on-board water in a poly tank and deluge gun.
  • With these two pumpers, the department has a pumping capacity in excess of 2,400 gallons of water per minute.

Tankers

  • (2) 2001 Freightliner FL70’s with 1800 gallon wet side steel tanks.
  • With both of these tankers, the department has a hauling capacity of over 3,500 gallons of water.

Foam/Grass Fire Rig

  • 1995 Chevrolet 1 ton truck is equipped with a slide-in poly tank that holds 200 gallons of water plus a foam reservoir.
  • The pump is powered by a 13 HP gas powered Briggs & Stratton engine. This unit is used to fight grassfires and fires requiring foam extinguishment.

Equipment Van

  • 1976 Chevrolet Kurbmaster step-van is utilized as a support unit transporting equipment as well as a 4-bottle cascading air refilling unit used to refill self-contained breathing apparatus air tanks.

Medical First Response Unit

  • 1991 Ford, Wheeled Coach is used as a medical first response unit, responding to medical and rescue calls as well as medical coverage in other emergencies.

Stationary Pumper

  • 750 gpm stationary pumper, located in the basement of the Old Village Hall Museum is used to pump water from the lake to three fill sites, plus two additional strategically located dry hydrant fill sites are used to supply water for fires in and beyond the fire district.

Other

  • MSA Self-contained breathing apparatuses
  • MSA Thermal Imaging Camera
  • TNT Extrication Equipment
  • High band communication equipment and tower
  • VCR and camcorder for training and documentation
  • With two drills and two meeting per month, the dedicated fire and EMS personnel are continuously training and educating themselves on equipment and techniques.
  • The department is proud to have a Women’s Auxiliary that supports them during emergencies and
    through financial gifts.
